In responding to criticism about the manner in which Bishops, Cardinals, and the Pope himself, have handled the problem of pedophile priests, the Roman Catholic Church and its defenders seem to have taken a lesson from what is said to be the CIA's unofficial motto:
Admit nothing, deny everything, make counter-accusations.
The Church might have served itself better by remembering and acting on an old cliche:
When you are in a hole, stop digging.
Enough said.
